Nicki Minaj’s “Pound the Alarm” video is here, and it’s one more pretty typography scroll and one fewer round of quick-cut edits away from being a visitors’ bureau video. It’s set during Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago–specifically, the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, and it’s got revelers of all sorts. It’s also got more sedate scenes, just Nicki and the scenery behind her. It’s got fireworks and soundstages and all manner of partying, and the idea’s to make you want to join the party–after all, why whine about “Starships” when you could be dancing instead?
(You’ll recall this was also the point of the “Starships” video, as others have pointed out. But that video was totally different. That one was a seaside party. This one was a Carnival party. Completely different things.)
