Strike while the iron is hot, we suppose. In reality, it’s not that weird that Ellie Goulding should already be in the release-date-announcing stages for her upcoming second album, Halcyon—debut effort Lights was released in her home country nearly two-and-a-half years ago, so a sophomore effort probably should be right around the corner. But our sense of timing is skewed in the States, because it’s only recently that Lights, and its title track single, have really started to catch on—in fact, the song reached a new peak of #4 on the Hot 100 just this week. For her to be announcing a second album before Our Girl Carly Rae Jepsen even releases her first just seems weird.
Nonetheless, for those who have been on board with Ellie Goulding since far before she was topping VH1′s Top 20 Videos of the Week countdown, it will most certainly be welcome news that Halcyon is in fact coming out soon. Tweeted Goulding earlier today:
Can finally give you all details of my next album! It is called ‘Halcyon’ and it is coming out on Oct 8th in the UK and Oct 9th in the US!

In addition, Ellie announced on Facebook that she would be accepting listener submissions for the lyric video for the album’s lead single, “Anything Can Happen.” Busy stretch for an artist who probably could just be coasting on her overdue crossover success right now, but perhaps that’s how you avoid being a one-hit wonder. Plus, you never know when the U.S. is gonna decide to just start ignoring the U.K. again for no reason.
