Info Post

We can’t remember the last time we looked forward this much to an album that was essentially a compilation, but just as much as we’re anticipating any release by a group or solo artist this summer, we’re excited for Cruel Summer, the first all-hands-on-deck release from Kanye West’s record label, G.O.O.D. Music. Likely featuring contributions from proven vets like ‘Ye, Pusha T and Q-Tip, as well as young up-and-comers Chief Keef, CyHi da Prynce and 2 Chainz (OK, latter’s not so young, but he’s only been 2 Chainz for a year or so), the album is all but guaranteed to be one of hip-hop’s must-listens of the summer.

Unsurprisingly, we’re gonna have to be waiting a little for it than previously rumored. We last heard that the album would be coming out in early August, but now it’s being pushed to the limits of its title, due for a September 4th release date. Still, that’s a good 18 days of Cruelty before the autumnal equinox, so we’ll be sure to get our maximum value out of those two-and-a-half weeks of seasonally appropriate listening.

By the way, Kanye—don’t get cute and leave off “Mercy,” or put it on the deluxe edition only or something. Yeah, yeah, we know, but just don’t do it. We’re not sick of it yet, so there’s no excuse for you to be.
