Beyonce is leaving us cryptic messages. They’re not that cryptic–when photos of empty bottles, paraphernalia, injuries, bed contents and used laundry get aired out on Instagram and when artists are OK with splaying or making it look like they’re splaying their entire private lives on Twitter, someone like Beyonce who limits her social sharing to neat, regal portions is naturally going to come off as cryptic.
That said, the following update she posted to her site would probably qualify as “cryptic” no matter who wrote it: “Leave Your Footprint On 19 August 2012.”
MTV speculated that this might mean Beyonce’s releasing new music–she’s been in the studio with Ryan Tedder recently–but that seems like a bit of a stretch. There’s another, more likely explanation, which also sadly involves Tedder. Remember this lyric, from not-new 4 track “I Was Here”?
I want to leave my footprints on the sands of time;
Know there was something that meant something that I left behind…
When I leave this world, I’ll leave no regrets,
Leave something to remember, so they won’t forget…
Based on this, there are three more likely possibilities:
1) Beyonce is saying goodbye to this mortal earth to ascend to some higher, loftier plane of existence–if anybody in music is going to announce that, it’d be Beyonce.
2) Something is happening with “I Was Here.” It could be a video or single, although Beyonce’s had quite a lot of those already. (Although 4 isn’t quite over–”End of Time” just got an official release a few months go.)
3) Notice how it says “leave your footprint on 19 August 2012″? That doesn’t make much sense, right? Maybe it’s supposed to read “Leave Your Footprint On…” with an implied “sands of time.” It’s now your job to contemplate every possible venture Beyonce could take on involving the sands of time. Again, if anyone in music could do it….
