Info Post

Let’s highly simplify the news media! There are publications in which you’ll primarily read about celebrities talking about other celebrities about celebrity matters, and there are other publications in which you might read about Lebanon. You generally don’t get much crossover there, you know? The Arabist doesn’t normally cover Snooki, and US Weekly normally doesn’t publish editorials on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Nobody told Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard this, however, before they talked to People about their dire circumstance of being Justin Bieber’s neighbor. Said Shepard–who was even a Belieber before this:

The music and the parties and the paparazzi, I mean, it’s like living in Lebanon now.

And why might that be, Dax? Increase in temperature whenever Bieber’s around? A sudden boom in the Lebanese paparazzi industry (possibly brought about by “Born This Way”)? Misconceptions about which Middle Eastern prime minister Bieber got into trouble with? Probably not. It’s probably just Dax Shepard comparing living next to Justin Bieber to living in Lebanon, which is apparently permanently and wholly engulfed in war, whether by Hezbollah or otherwise. Every part of this comparison is accurate and in no way reductive.

To be fair to Shepard, we should let him continue speaking:

In [Bieber's] defense, I will say we don’t know the exact house the music is coming from. We just know since he moved in, the music has been blaring.

OK. It’s not Justin Bieber that makes Dax feel like he’s living amid multinational strife. It’s just loud music playing. Take it to heart, folks: whenever you hear people’s speakers through the wall, you have the right to invoke war. Especially if it’s Bieber.
