You accept certain realities of life when you become a musician. You accept, for instance, the fact that getting a death threat is no longer a huge, scary deal that requires going to the police and fearing for your life, but what happens when you switch to your Twitter tab, worth only a shrug and, if you’re feeling combative, a remark about haters. (Incidentally, this also applies to people who write about music. No, not the same amount; no, that’s not an invitation.)
If you’re a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Life, though, shrugs aren’t enough. They’re not funny. They’re too nonchalant. They’re too much like what you’d do in your pajamas on the couch and not enough like you’d do for an audience of millions you’re supposed to be entertaining. So instead, for Twitter’s sixth anniversary, Kimmel got a bunch of celebrities to give dramatic and/or deadpan readings of the bile sprayed upon them. In addition to a lot of (as of now) non-musical folks, we’ve got Justin Bieber realizing he is not actually Tupac and, in some order or another, Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry, both of whom seem to be talking in what you’d expect to be the other’s voice. Watch the video below.
(Not enough musicians for you? Keep watching after the sketch for Diddy.)
