You’re not a true artist until you get naked on one of your album covers—everybody knows that. It’s been proven so many times that you’d think it would be a cliché at this point, but music dudes and dudettes keep finding new directions in which to take the obligatory Cover Art Nudity principle. Natasha Khan, a.k.a. U.K. singer/songwriter Bat for Lashes, doubles down on the CAN on the cover for her upcoming album The Haunted Man, equipping her naked self with a similarly clothes-less man to carry on her shoulders. No explanation is given, naturally—unless we’re to assume that this is in fact the haunted man in question—but the guy’s sprawled body does come in handy in covering certain body parts.
Provocative stuff, sure. Luckily, it doesn’t seem like the album’s cover is too likely to overshadow the music contained therein—at least if the album’s lead single, the gorgeous, theatrical piano ballad “Laura,” is indicative of the album at large. Check out the video below if you haven’t heard it yet, it’s a must.
