The biggest story off America’s Got Talent–well, aside from anything involving America’s aspiring talents–wasn’t who appeared but who didn’t appear, namely Justin Bieber.
But we’ve already written enough for now about an event that didn’t happen, so let’s focus on one that did: Cher Lloyd’s sparkly, assured U.S. TV debut (she’s well past her debut across the pond, having competed on The X Factor) with “Want U Back.” Since this is her Stateside debut, she did the U.S. version, meaning that it’s set in a malt shop and not her room, meaning that Astro’s rap verse is still lost in the memory hole, and meaning that Cher’s hair is one curlicue away from Karmin. (Oh, the things one does to break in the United States.)
One more thing before the video: this is one of those performances with its own lyrics video displayed on the back wall. We can’t say this is a good trend, but in this case, it teaches us something very important. That one lyric/word/sound, you know the one, is in fact supposed to be written out UGH! and not UH! or AUGH! or *incoherent yet awesome grunt noise*. Entire schools of scholarship have been established on less.
