Info Post

Look, it’s not like we don’t already have big hopes for the stuff that Nile Rodgers, one half of legendary disco-funk duo Chic, was gonna be doing with Daft Punk, the most acclaimed and beloved electronic act to have gone over a decade without releasing an album anyone liked. You put the names “Chic” and “Daft Punk” in the same sentence and pop dudes and dudettes are invariably gonna get pumped. Might think, then, that the trio would try to hedge against such lofty expectations, maybe downplay their collaborative excellence, that sort of thing.

Well, Nile Rogers ain’t scurred of over-hype, to say the least. He talked to Mixmag of his latest collaborators, and had some rather complementary things to say to their credit:

All I can say is those guys are geniuses and to think that after all these years we’ve been trying to get together, they just show up at my apartment in New York City and the vibe between us is so powerful and so strong – it’s unbelievable..Spiritually and artistically working with them was as good as anything I’ve ever done. It’s as great as being in a studio with Bowie, it’s great as being with Bernard Edwards, and it’s as great as the best stuff I’ve ever done with Duran or Madonna.

Yeah, just as good as anything Nile’s ever done with Chic, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Madonna…no biggie. It’s not like “Good Times,” “Let’s Dance,” “The Reflex” and “Like a Virgin” were all super-awesome #1 hits that just about everyone loves and still get played with reverence today. (OK, maybe actually not “The Reflex,” but that was a #1 hit, somehow.) If that’s the company that Nile’s DP collabos are keeping, that means the next DP album just might make our top 25 of the year list. (When it comes out in 2017 or whenever.)
